John “Jack” Bernard Bazile, age 87, of the Town of Wyoming, Waupaca County passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025, at Care Partners in Clintonville, surrounded by his family.
Jack was born on January 2, 1938 on the family farm in the Town of Hunting and lived his entire life in the Tigerton area. In his early childhood, Jack spent much of his time timber cruising with his grandfather John Odell, where he learned his love of the woods, nature, and his Native American heritage. He graduated from Tigerton High School in 1955 and then traveled to Memphis, TN, where he attended and graduated from lumber grading school. He joined the Army, the 32nd Red Arrow Division in 1961, and served during the Berlin Crisis. On a blind date, John met RoseMary Fournier, who would eventually become his wife. They eventually married on September 14th, 1963, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Big Falls. He was an ironworker for several companies from 1957-1983 through Ironworkers Local #8. Jack was also an assessor for over 40 years, operating Bazile Assessment Services with his wife Rosie.
Jack lived a full and active life, devoted to the land and the homestead he and Rosie built together. Their dedication was recognized when they were named Wisconsin Tree Farmers of the Year in 1984, followed by being honored as Regional Winners in 1986. They were proud, lifetime members of the Wisconsin Woodland Owners Association. Jack was also an active member of St. Anthony’s in Tigerton, where he served as an usher for many years. Jack was a proud member of the American Legion Post 239 in Tigerton.
Jack traveled extensively with his wife and family, sharing his deep love of hunting. He had several Boone and Crockett record trophies to his name. He hunted the mountains from Alaska to New Mexico. He passed on his passion for horses, the outdoors, rodeo, and so much more to his entire family. Above all, Jack’s greatest wish was for his love of the land to live on through the generations of his family.
He is survived by two sons, Shawn (Kathy) and Shane (Amy) Bazile, grandchildren Dakota (Kenzie), Cheyenne (fiancée Bryce), Bridget Bazile, step-great-granddaughter Annabelle, sister Vonnie (Jim Grenz) Gutho, nieces Teresa (Tim) Griepentrog, MaryEllen (Marlin) Schafer, Wendy (Lee) Hangartner, nephew Lee (Kayla) Verg, and many other great nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. John is preceded in death by his wife, RoseMary Bazile, his parents, John and Theresa (O’Dell) Bazile, his in-laws, Leonard and Ardis (Malueg) Fournier, sister and brother-in-law, Dawn and Steve Verg, brother-in-law, Maynard Gutho, and special nephew, John Gutho.
Jack’s funeral service will be held Friday, August 1, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Tigerton. Fr. Mark Rydell will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church both on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and again on Friday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Military honors will be conducted in the church parking lot following the service by members of the Tigerton American Legion Post #239.
