Shawano Police Urge Vigilance as Vehicle Break-Ins Continue Across the City

SHAWANO, WI – Shawano Police are urging residents to stay alert as vehicle break-ins continue to rise, particularly in neighborhoods where cars are being left unlocked.
Police Chief Mike Musolff says the incidents are happening more frequently during the overnight hours and often involve young people who may be sneaking out without their parents’ knowledge.
“A lot of times, people are leaving their vehicles unlocked, and these kids are going through the vehicles and stealing what they can,” Musolff said. “Most of the time when vehicles are locked, we’re not seeing an issue with these things happening.”
With summer in full swing and school out, police are also encouraging parents to be more mindful of their children’s whereabouts at night.
“I wouldn’t think the parents would be letting them go out of the house, so I have to assume they’re sneaking out,” Musolff added. “If parents could be a little bit better at monitoring what their kids are doing at night, that would be wonderful.”
Musolff advises residents to lock their vehicles, remove any valuables, and keep outdoor lights on as added precautions. Anyone who sees suspicious activity is encouraged to contact Shawano Police.
