CLINTONVILLE, WI – For Ian Dieck, the joy of flying is simple: “It was really fun because you’re in the sky like a bird.” Ian is one of many local children who discovered a love for aviation through the Young Eagles program, hosted by EAA Chapter 1710 in Clintonville/Shawano.
The program’s mission is to introduce the next generation to the thrill of flight, no pilot’s license required. “We’re not even pilots, and we don’t have a plane,” said Ian’s father, Ben Dieck. “But we’re heavily involved in aviation because that’s what he wants to do. It all started when we flew to Florida to see grandpa and grandma, and he just loved planes.”
Now, the chapter is gearing up for its next big event: the Young Eagles Rally on August 16 at the Shawano Airport. Organizers encourage early registration due to the event’s popularity. “You can follow us on Facebook,” said Dieck. “We’ll post details on the Shawano page, the airport page, and the Clintonville Airport page as well.”
