NEW LONDON, WI – A new bridge could soon become a key addition to the Newton Blackmour Trail as city officials take early steps toward enhancing trail access and regional connectivity.
The New London Common Council recently approved a 30% engineering and design agreement to begin the planning process. Parks and Recreation Director Ginger Sowle says the city has partnered with an engineering firm to begin preliminary work.
“We have just signed an agreement with an engineer that will be doing 30% of the engineering and design,” Sowle said. The next step involves floodplain modeling, where different bridge designs will be tested to determine how they would handle a 100-year flood scenario.
While there is currently no set timeline for construction, the city is expected to contribute to the project through fundraising efforts. Officials say the proposed bridge would be a valuable addition for trail users and outdoor enthusiasts throughout the region.
