SHAWANO, WI – Tourism in Shawano County continued its upward trend in 2024, with room tax collections rising nearly 1% to just over $216,000 and total visitor spending reaching $77.6 million.
Michelle Eron, tourism director for the Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce, shared the update during a report to the Shawano Common Council. According to Eron, the total economic impact of tourism in the county climbed to $116 million.
Lodging remained the leading revenue generator, followed by spending on food, retail, transportation, and entertainment. Eron credited the continued growth to robust marketing efforts, including widespread distribution of the county’s annual visitor guide and a boost in social media engagement.
Looking ahead, Eron is optimistic that 2025 could see even greater gains thanks to national exposure from the NFL Draft and increased interest in the county’s signature barn quilt project.
