SHAWANO, WI – Race fans and aviation enthusiasts will want to look to the skies on Sunday, July 20, as the 27th annual AirVenture Cup Race makes its way over Shawano. The event will bring a high-speed buzz of excitement, with planes flying just 500 feet above the city as part of the cross-country race.
Mayor Bruce Milavitz is inviting the public to a viewing party at the Shawano airfield, where families can gather to watch the race and enjoy additional activities.
“We’ll have food on the field and lots of activities for the kids,” said Milavitz. “It’s a great opportunity for families to experience something unique right here in Shawano.”
The event is hosted in coordination with the Northern Flight Alliance, a group working to promote aviation awareness and spark interest in flight among younger generations.
The AirVenture Cup is a cross-country air race that leads into the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, one of the largest aviation events in the world. Shawano’s role as a flyover and viewing location provides a rare, up-close opportunity for the community to witness these experimental and sport aircraft in action.
