SHIOCTON, WI – The lines may be reeled in and the winners crowned, but the impact of the Shiocton Fishing Derby is just beginning.
Thanks to strong community support, funds raised from this year’s derby are going directly toward educational and outdoor programs through Shadows on the Wolf, a local nonprofit focused on conservation and safety education.
“The money that we raise here today goes to our educational center, which is just down the road from here,” said Kevin Conradt, President of Shadows on the Wolf. “One of our generous donors gave us a good sum of money to help put up the buildings.”
The center, which operates without a steady income, hosts a variety of safety and skills courses, including hunter safety, archery, boat safety, and snowmobile safety. According to Conradt, it also serves as a community hub.
“All the money we raise goes to that place,” he explained. “We need to keep the lights on in that building.”
Conradt says the continued support from derby participants and local donors helps ensure that the facility remains available to teach vital outdoor and safety skills for people of all ages.
