SHAWANO, WI – As of July 1, families across Wisconsin now have the opportunity to enroll their children in school districts outside of where they live, thanks to the state’s Alternative Open Enrollment period.
Shawano School District Superintendent Kurt Krizan says this program is a great option for families who want their children to attend Shawano schools, even if they reside outside district boundaries. “If a family has relocated outside of Shawano but still wants to attend the district, the first step is to contact our Welcome Center and enrollment services,” Krizan explained.
The alternative open enrollment window runs from July 1 through the remainder of the school year, and applications are available on the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) website. Families will need to provide proof of residency and complete the appropriate application to qualify.
For additional help, parents are encouraged to stop by the enrollment services office inside Shawano Middle School or visit the district’s website for more information.
