STEVENS POINT, WI- The WIAA Advisory Council voted down a pair of significant basketball proposals this week, both centered on the potential use of a shot clock. One plan would have implemented a shot clock for all varsity games starting in 2027, while a second proposal aimed to allow it as an option for non-conference games as early as this season. After years of debate, advocates of the shot clock will once again return to the drawing board.
Another major basketball item on the table, a proposal to double the number of state tournament qualifiers from 20 to 40 for both boys and girls, also failed to gain approval. The expanded format would have required additional tournament days and multiple venues.
