MILWAUKEE, WI – For the Xavier Hawks, the mission was clear: finish what they started. And on Saturday afternoon, they did just that, claiming the WIAA Division 4 Girls Soccer State Championship with a 2-0 shutout over Ozaukee/Random Lake at Uihlein Soccer Park.
Xavier, the tournament’s top seed, came out aggressive and never looked back, scoring in the opening minutes and maintaining control throughout.
Senior Sydney Neilitz got the Hawks on the board just 3:56 into the match, driving home a low shot to the far corner off a well-placed assist from Kate Jannette. The early strike gave Xavier an immediate lead and the confidence they needed to dictate the tempo.
Ozaukee/Random Lake, appearing in their first state final as a co-op, struggled to generate offense against a dominant Xavier defense. They were held to just one shot the entire match and had no shots on goal or corner kick opportunities.
Xavier’s insurance goal came in the 55th minute, courtesy of junior standout Helayna Krueger. The forward displayed individual brilliance, dribbling past the goalkeeper before slotting the ball inside the far post for her 28th goal of the season.
The Hawks finished with a 12-1 shot advantage and earned eight corner kicks to none for their opponents. Goalkeeper Abigail Anderson did not need to record a save, as the Xavier defense kept the Ozaukee/Random Lake attack silent for all 80 minutes.
