It was a busy day for Shawano Police with calls ranging from minor incidents to a fatal crash.
The morning began with officers responding to an abandoned vehicle near Mountain Bay Trail. Not long after, a 911 call from near the middle school prompted a welfare check.
Police also investigated a harassment report on East Green Bay Street, and just minutes later, a fraud case was opened, with a named suspect identified.
By midday, officers were kept busy with a vehicle lockout, a junked vehicle, and recovered property, including two found wallets—one at the department, another at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Around 2:30 p.m., officers were called to Charlie’s County Market for a shoplifting incident. The suspect fled the scene, chased by two individuals, and was last seen heading toward Luigi’s wearing a camo hat.
Later that afternoon, police handled a disturbance on South Sawyer Street, involving an intoxicated individual. They also responded to reckless driving on Waukechon Street, a stray dog on Lieg Avenue, and a counterfeit bill reported at Luigi’s Pizza.
The most serious call came just after 6 p.m., when multiple units responded to a fatal vehicle crash near Bowler on County Trunk D. Details remain limited, but the scene was active for several hours and involved coordination between law enforcement, emergency medical services, and county responders.
The day wrapped with more medical assists, a second lockout, and multiple welfare checks.
Clintonville Police Officers began their overnight shift with multiple business checks along East 3rd and South Main, ensuring local storefronts remained secure.
Around 3:30 a.m., a welfare check was conducted on West Morning Glory Drive, followed by a 911 call on East 12th Street just after 6 a.m.
Traffic enforcement remained steady throughout the day, with several stops logged along North 12th, South Main, and Highway 22. A motor vehicle crash occurred just before 4 p.m. at South Main and East Madison, though no injuries were reported.
Emergency crews also responded to a gas leak on McKinley Avenue around 4:20 p.m. That was followed shortly by a controlled burn on West 1st Street.
Later that evening, police handled a suspected drug incident on West Morning Glory Drive and a noise complaint on Robert Street.
Clintonville officers also maintained visibility with extra patrols across Rohrer, 16th Street, and Memorial Circle.
A flurry of calls kept deputies busy across Shawano County, ranging from deer collisions to welfare checks.
Early morning, dispatch received a 911 call just after 3 a.m. from an unknown number with only static on the line. The source couldn’t be traced.
Around 5:30 a.m., a vehicle struck a deer on Highway 29 near Maple Avenue. No injuries were noted.
Later in Wittenberg, deputies responded to a missing elderly woman with dementia. She reportedly wandered off from a dental appointment. Family had no idea where she went, but law enforcement quickly located her unharmed.
In Bonduel, an animal incident was reported when a loose black lab ran up to a resident’s dog and grabbed its collar. No injuries occurred, but the dog’s owner was concerned.
One of the more dramatic moments came in Caroline just before 2 p.m., when an Alliant Energy truck veered into a ditch, damaging the roadside. Fortunately, the driver was not inside the vehicle at the time.
And in Leopolis, one man claimed his neighbor, already in trouble with the DNR, threatened to kill him. The matter is under investigation.
Meanwhile, the Stockbridge-Munsee Police Department handled a vehicle fire in Gresham. A riding lawn mower caught fire near a transformer. No damage to the transformer was reported.
