MILWAUKEE, WI – In a tightly contested WIAA state semifinal, top-seeded Xavier earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over No. 4 seed Lake Country Lutheran on Thursday afternoon, punching their ticket to the state championship match.
The lone goal came in the 61st minute, when Xavier’s Ellie Reed capitalized on a rebound off the crossbar, slotting the ball past the keeper for her fourth goal of the season. Senior Kate Jannette was credited with the assist after setting up the initial chance.
Xavier managed just six total shots but made the most of their opportunities, while goalkeeper Abigail Anderson turned away all three shots on goal to secure the shutout.
Lake Country Lutheran had a 13-6 advantage in total shots and dominated corner kick opportunities 4-3, but couldn’t break through against a stout Xavier defense. Rachel Malm recorded three saves in net for LCL.
With the win, Xavier now moves one step closer to a state title and will compete for the Division 4 championship this weekend.
