GRAND CHUTE, WI – In the WIAA Division 2 State Championship, it was a showdown that lived up to its billing, New Berlin Eisenhower edged Seymour 5-4 on a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh Thursday at Fox Cities Stadium.
With the game tied 4-4, Sam Hirthe delivered the decisive blow, an RBI double to left that brought Carter Hollenback home for the win.
Seymour rallied from a 4-0 third-inning deficit with a four-run fourth. Micah Byers cracked a two-run double and Colten Nieland followed with a two-RBI single to even the score.
New Berlin Eisenhower jumped ahead with a four-run third of its own, highlighted by Hirthe’s two-RBI single and a pair of walks and hit batters that helped load the bases. Seymour kept the Lions off the board over the next three frames, but a leadoff walk and Hirthe’s heroics sealed the win in the seventh.
Seymour’s Colten Nieland had a strong game at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Brandon Poch and Andrew Felty also contributed hits. Byers added a crucial double during the Lightning’s comeback push.
Brayden Banker took the loss in relief, while Max Nemoir earned the win for Eisenhower.
