Kaukauna Blanks Hamilton to Reach WIAA Division 1 State Softball Final
Behind a dominant pitching performance from Karly Meredith, the Kaukauna Ghosts remained unbeaten and punched their ticket to the WIAA Division 1 state championship game with a 2-0 victory over Hamilton Thursday night at Goodman Diamond.
Meredith struck out 11 and allowed just three hits over seven shutout innings, helping top-ranked Kaukauna improve to 26-0 on the season. She also contributed at the plate, going 1-for-2 and scoring one of Kaukauna’s two runs in the first inning. Paige Bodenheimer also reached base twice and scored, while Jozy Ebben added a hit for the Ghosts.
Almond-Bancroft Rolls Past Thorp to Reach Division 5 State Softball Final
Almond-Bancroft exploded for 18 runs on 15 hits in just four innings to cruise past Thorp 18-3 in a WIAA Division 5 state semifinal Thursday at Goodman Diamond.
The Eagles (25-6) wasted no time lighting up the scoreboard, plating 12 runs across the first two innings and ending the game early via the mercy rule. Pitcher Riya Ceballos led the way both in the circle and at the plate, striking out one and walking none over four innings while also going 3-for-3 with five RBIs and a double. Mya Dernbach had a perfect day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with four runs scored, and Kerstyn Clark drove in five runs on two hits.
