Division 1 Girls Soccer: Kimberly Holds Off Bay Port to Advance
KIMBERLY — A pair of first-half goals from Katie Owens lifted Kimberly to a 2-1 victory over Bay Port in a Division 1 sectional semifinal on Thursday. Owens struck early in the fourth minute and added another just before halftime, with an assist from Lindsey Owens. The Papermakers (16-3-2) held off a late surge after Bay Port’s Macy Brosteau scored in the 63rd minute. Kimberly goalkeeper Bee Brockert made six saves to help secure the win, and the team advances to face Eau Claire Memorial in the sectional final on June 14.
Division 2 Girls Soccer: Pulaski Stuns Top-Seeded Plymouth
PLYMOUTH — The Pulaski Red Raiders leaned on lockdown defense to earn a 1-0 upset over top-seeded Plymouth in a Division 2 sectional semifinal. The sixth-ranked Red Raiders (17-5-1) recorded their third straight shutout and have now blanked six of their last eight opponents. With the win, Pulaski advances to the sectional final against Brookfield Central on June 14 in Plymouth. Plymouth, which entered the game as the top-ranked team in Division 2, finishes its season at 14-3-1.
Division 3 Girls Soccer: Waupaca Edges Ashland in Overtime Thriller
ASHLAND — Waupaca needed extra time, but the Comets came through with a clutch overtime goal to beat Ashland 2-1 and punch their ticket to the sectional final. The win improves Waupaca’s record to 7-6-2 heading into a June 14 showdown with West Salem in Medford. The hard-fought contest saw both teams locked in a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation before the Comets found the net in overtime. Ashland’s season ends with a record of 11-12-1.
Division 3 Girls Soccer: Saeger Hat Trick Lifts Kiel Past Winneconne
KIEL — Taavi Saeger scored a hat trick and Deanna Schwaller added a goal as Kiel downed Winneconne 4-2 in Thursday’s sectional semifinal. The Raiders (21-4-1) were backed by a strong performance in goal from Mya Langenfeld, who tallied nine saves. With the win, Kiel advances to face Cedar Grove-Belgium in the sectional final on June 14. Winneconne’s impressive season ends with an 18-4-0 record.
Division 4 Girls Soccer: Xavier Shuts Out Wrightstown to Reach Final
APPLETON — Xavier recorded its 12th shutout of the season with a 2-0 win over Wrightstown in a Division 4 sectional semifinal on Thursday. The Hawks (17-3-1), ranked second in the state, advance to face top-ranked Howards Grove in the sectional final on June 14 at St. Mary Catholic. Strong team defense and solid goalkeeping led the way as Xavier kept the Tigers off the scoreboard. Wrightstown concludes its season with a 12-7-2 record.
Division 4 Girls Soccer: Howards Grove Powers Past Freedom
HOWARDS GROVE — The top-ranked Tigers of Howards Grove showed why they’re the team to beat, jumping to a 3-1 first-half lead en route to a 4-1 victory over Freedom in Thursday’s sectional semifinal. With the win, Howards Grove (18-1-1) advances to the sectional final against second-ranked Xavier on June 14. The Tigers continue to dominate in Division 4 play and will now face a much-anticipated clash with the Hawks. Freedom ends its season at 10-7-3.
