WIAA State Baseball: Hortonville and Seymour Ready for Title Runs

GRAND CHUTE, WI- The 2025 WIAA State Baseball Tournament is set to begin Monday, June 16, at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute. The four-day event will feature quarterfinal and semifinal matchups across four divisions, culminating in championship games on Thursday, June 19.

Among the local teams competing for a state title are Hortonville in Division 1 and Seymour in Division 2.

Hortonville Looks to Finish the Job

Hortonville (22-7), the No. 3 seed in the Division 1 bracket, is making its 10th overall appearance at State and returns for the second time in three seasons. The Polar Bears are hungry for redemption after finishing as runners-up in 2023. They earned their spot in this year’s quarterfinals with a 3-1 win over De Pere in the Bay Port Sectional final.

Hortonville opens play on Monday, June 16, at 2:30 p.m. against No. 6 seed Hartford (21-7). The Polar Bears bring a strong postseason pedigree, with previous state titles in 1987 (Class B) and back-to-back championships in 1997 and 1998 (Division 2). They finished as runners-up in the Fox Valley Association this season.

Seymour Makes Historic State Debut

Seymour (25-3) is heading to the state tournament for the first time in school history and enters the Division 2 bracket as the No. 3 seed. The Thunder dominated Waupun in the Waupaca Sectional final, cruising to a 14-1 win in five innings.

Seymour will take on No. 2 seed Aquinas (23-3) on Wednesday, June 18, at 9 a.m. in the Division 2 semifinals. Aquinas is no stranger to the spotlight, coming off a Division 3 state title last season and now looking to add hardware in a higher division. Seymour, however, boasts momentum and a Bay Conference championship this spring.
