CLINTONVILLE, WI- Local residents are being warned about a scam text message falsely claiming to be from the Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The message, which has been received by multiple people in the area, threatens enforcement actions unless the recipient pays an alleged outstanding traffic ticket by June 5, 2025.
The message states that failure to pay will result in suspended vehicle registration and driving privileges, additional fees, prosecution, and damage to the recipient’s credit score. It includes a suspicious link to an unofficial website and urges immediate payment.
Municipal officials stress that this message is a scam. The Wisconsin DMV does not send payment demands or legal threats via text, and it would never use a foreign phone number—such as the one listed in the message: +63 931 889 8946.
