CECIL, WI- The Bonduel boys golf team is headed back to the WIAA Division 3 State Tournament after capturing the sectional title on their home course at Golden Sands on Tuesday. It marks the Bears’ second consecutive trip to state as they continue to establish themselves as one of the premier small-school golf programs in Wisconsin.
Bonduel edged out a dramatic finish, posting a team score of 353—just one stroke ahead of both Marathon and Oconto, who tied at 354. Marathon advanced to state after winning a team playoff against Oconto for the second qualifying spot.
Senior Jaxon Bogacz led the Bears with a round of 83, anchoring the team’s effort with steady play throughout the day. Fellow senior Colin Fischer added an 85, while Cole Westphal carded an 87. Griffin Uelmen (98) and Cory Wussow (100) rounded out the scoring for Bonduel.
Bogacz tied for fifth overall, just five strokes behind medalist Carter Koch of Oconto, who shot a 78 and advanced as an individual qualifier. Koch’s performance nearly helped lift Oconto to state, but the Blue Devils fell in the playoff tiebreaker.
Bonduel Coach Dave LaBerge credited the team’s composure and familiarity with the course as key factors in the win.
Bonduel will now shift its focus to the WIAA State Championships, which will be held June 3-4 at Blackwolf Run in Kohler. The Bears are hoping to improve on last year’s showing and contend for a podium finish.
