SHAWANO, WI- The Shawano Parks and Recreation Department is inviting the public to a special community event on Wednesday, June 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., to learn more about the city’s new park project and celebrate the progress being made.
Held outdoors near the construction site, the gathering will feature a free meal sponsored by Eight Pine Construction, the company building the new facility. Guests will have the opportunity to connect with representatives from Eight Pine, the City of Shawano, and MSA Professional Services, the project’s design team.
“This is a chance for the community to stop by, ask questions, share feedback, or just learn more about what’s being built,” said Shawano Parks and Recreation Director Matt Hendricks. “We’ll have 12 to 15 people there, and one of us is bound to have the answer to your question.”
The come-and-go event is open to all, and families are especially encouraged to attend. Organizers are hoping to involve children in a fun, symbolic groundbreaking photo opportunity.
“We’d love to have 10 or 12 kids with golden shovels and hard hats get in the dirt for a photo,” Hendricks said. “This project is for the next generation too, and we’d love to capture that moment—maybe even feature it in the building’s artwork.”
The event will be held outside, as the building site will already be closed by then. Hendricks added, “We just hope for a sunny day, and we want people to come out and have fun. It’s not just for adults—it’s a family event.”
No RSVP is required, and attendees are welcome to stay for the whole event or stop by for just a few minutes.
