KESHENA, WI- A 60-year-old Keshena man is in custody following a tense, hours-long standoff that involved gunfire as law enforcement attempted to execute a search warrant Tuesday morning.
According to the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were serving the warrant around 7 a.m. at a property on Spirit Island Road when shots were fired from inside the building as they began securing the area.
The situation quickly escalated, prompting the sheriff’s office to call in reinforcements. Backup teams from the Brown County and Green Bay SWAT units, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation responded to the scene.
Authorities say additional gunfire was directed toward responding officers, but no injuries were reported.
The standoff came to an end just before 5:30 p.m. when the suspect surrendered peacefully. He was taken into custody without incident.
