SHAWANO, WI- The Shawano County Sheriff’s Department is moving closer to a long-term upgrade of its communication system after a public safety committee approved a new 10-year contract proposal with Motorola.
The proposed agreement includes the purchase of 40 high-tech portable radios and an implementation plan that would bring the department’s equipment up to modern standards. The deal now heads to the county’s executive committee before going to the full county board for final approval.
Lt. Chris Madle told the committee that Motorola is phasing out support for the department’s current radios, making the upgrade essential. “Not saying it won’t work anymore, but when stuff breaks, they’re not going to support it,” Madle said.
