TOWN OF FAIRBANKS, WI- Nearly a decade after a woman was found with a fatal gunshot wound at a rural home near Tigerton, authorities have arrested her husband in connection with her death.
James C. Radford, 39, was taken into custody last month and has been formally charged with First-Degree Reckless Homicide in the 2016 death of his wife, Sabrina Radford. The arrest follows a lengthy and complex investigation by the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office, which reopened the case due to what officials described as “suspicious circumstances” surrounding Sabrina’s death.
On April 11, 2016, deputies responded to a 911 call made by James Radford, who reported that his wife had shot herself at their residence on County Road J. At the time, law enforcement was unable to determine definitively whether her death was a suicide or foul play.
Despite the initial uncertainty, investigators pursued the case for nine years, conducting multiple interviews—including with Radford—and reviewing previously gathered evidence. With advancements in forensic technology and the help of expert witnesses, authorities were eventually able to rule out suicide as the cause of death.
Following the new findings, the case was referred to the Shawano County District Attorney’s Office. On April 15 of this year, Radford was arrested in Waukesha County and transported to the Shawano County Jail, where he remains in custody on an $800,000 cash bond.
“We understand the past nine years have been long and difficult, but please know that this case was never forgotten,” the Sheriff’s Office stated in a press release. “Our office has worked diligently to bring answers and accountability.”
