Several counties in northern and central Wisconsin are under a Red Flag Warning on Sunday, as fire danger reaches critical levels across parts of the state.
The National Weather Service issues a Red Flag Warning when conditions such as warm temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds combine to create an especially high risk for wildfires.
The warning covers 19 counties: Florence, Forest, Langlade, Marinette, Oneida, and Vilas. It is in effect from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
While these counties face the most immediate risk, others—including Shawano and Waupaca—remain in the Very High fire danger category, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Residents in these areas are urged to use extreme caution.
The DNR is asking the public to avoid outdoor burning, use care with campfires and equipment that can spark, and double-check that any recent fires have been fully extinguished.
