NEW LONDON, WI- A memorial honoring New London-area soldiers who died in the Vietnam War will be relocated from Memorial Park to the more visible Veterans Memorial site at Taft Park. The decision was approved by the New London Parks and Recreation Committee during its last meeting.
Originally placed by the Jaycees (now the 7-11 Club) in 1981, the memorial rock currently sits in a quiet corner of Memorial Park, where many residents and veterans feel it goes unnoticed. Several Vietnam veterans voiced strong support for the move, emphasizing the importance of giving the fallen the recognition they deserve—especially during Memorial Day events held at Taft Park.
Local veterans groups, including AMVETS, voted unanimously in favor of the relocation. City staff and veterans say the new location will give the memorial the honor and visibility it deserves.
