The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is now accepting applications for its Shooting Range Grant Program, with a deadline of July 15, 2025. The program offers financial assistance for public and private shooting ranges that provide safe, accessible recreational shooting opportunities for the public.
Managers of shooting ranges or individuals planning to build new shooting ranges are encouraged to apply. To be eligible, the ranges must meet public access requirements. The DNR is particularly interested in ranges located near densely populated areas and those that offer educational programming related to hunting and shooting sports. However, for-profit shooting ranges are not eligible for funding.
Past grant recipients have used the funding for various improvements, including the renovation or construction of backstops, shooting benches, restrooms, and even indoor ranges. Previous winners of the grant can also reapply for funding.
