SHAWANO, WI- It was a night of gratitude, recognition, and humility as the Shawano Optimist Club held its annual awards ceremony to honor the city’s finest. Among the highlights of the evening was the presentation of the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award to two outstanding members of the local police department: Chris Madle and Tom Cotter.
Madle expressed his appreciation for the recognition.
“It’s an honor,” he said. “Anytime we can get recognized for what we do, it’s important. We don’t do it for the recognition, but it’s cool to receive this award. I feel like I’ve worked hard for it, but again, it’s not something I do for the recognition—it is nice to receive it. Thank you.”
Officer Tom Cotter echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the meaningfulness of the award.
“Well, it’s a very prestigious award, and I thank the Optimist Club for having it every year,” Cotter said. “It’s really deserving of a number of officers in this community for what they do. I’m very grateful to the police department for nominating me and also to the Optimist Club for hosting the event.”
The Optimist Club continues its tradition of recognizing the vital contributions of local law enforcement, shining a spotlight on officers who go above and beyond to serve and protect the community.
