CLINTONVILLE, WI- In an unusual but fair twist of fate, Alderman Greg Rose has been named the new president of the Clintonville Common Council—after his name was drawn from a hat.
Rose, who was recently re-elected to the council, was one of two nominees for the leadership position. Fellow alderman Brandon Braden was also nominated, and when the council cast their votes, the result was a tie.
Faced with the stalemate, Mayor Steve Kettenhoven opted to let chance decide rather than break the tie himself.
Both nominees’ names were placed in a hat, and Rose’s name was drawn, officially making him council president.
Rose will now take on the additional duties of helping to set meeting agendas, leading council sessions in the mayor’s absence, and serving as a key voice in city decision-making.
The drawing marked a lighthearted but meaningful moment in local government, reinforcing the value of fairness and transparency—even when it comes down to chance.
