SHAWANO, WI- With an influx of visitors expected in the area due to the 2025 NFL Draft festivities, Shawano County Sheriff George Lenzner is reminding residents and travelers to stay alert and exercise caution on the roads over the coming days.
While the department isn’t deploying large numbers of additional personnel, Sheriff Lenzner said deputies will be on hand and keeping a close eye on traffic to ensure safety throughout the region.
“We just have, you know, extra people working — not a whole lot,” Lenzner said. “But we made sure we have staff on, and that they are aware of traffic. We’re hoping everything goes good.”
With the NFL Draft drawing crowds across the state, Lenzner’s main concern centers on the volume of drivers on highways and local roads, which can lead to increased congestion and the potential for accidents.
“Just be aware that there’s going to be more traffic the next few days,” he advised. “Take your time getting places, don’t be in a hurry. Be vigilant down the roadway.”
Lenzner also reminded motorists to buckle up and stay focused behind the wheel.
“The more traffic there is, the more chances there are for accidents,” he said. “Slow down. Wear your seatbelt.”
As excitement builds for the draft, law enforcement hopes that with a little extra patience and attention from drivers, the weekend will be safe for everyone enjoying the events in and around Shawano County.
