
Betty H. Cox, age 89, of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Appleton. Betty was born January 19, 1936, in Shawano, a daughter of the late Alfred and Genevieve (Hill) Kroenke. She attended Shawano High School and graduated with the Class of 1954. On May 5, 1979, Betty was united in marriage to Catlin E. “Cal” Cox at Shawano United Methodist Church. Following their marriage the couple lived in Oshkosh until 1983 when they moved to Shawano. Her husband Cal preceded her in death on September 9, 2016. She was a good and faithful member of the United Methodist Church “The Church on the Hill” in Shawano. Betty worked numerous different jobs throughout her life including at Super Value as a baker, Country Kitchen in Oshkosh, at local nursing homes, the Shawano Evening Leader, and Ponderosa. She was an avid volunteer and loved serving her community whenever she could. She helped at AARP, SAFPARC, the Salvation Army Red Kettle, the Red Barn at Charlie’s, and the concession stand for the Methodist Church at Packer games, just to name a few. She had a heart of gold and always wanted to lend a helping hand to others. Betty enjoyed listening to polka music, bowling, going to the casino, and making her famous peanut butter fudge for family and friends. Most recently she loved playing cards, bingo, cribbage, and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.
Survivors include her daughter, Gwen (Dean) Schwartzkopf; sister-in-law, Karen Badeau; her nieces and nephews, Bretta (Keith) Carlton, Becky (Ray) Sweetman, Ann (Mike) Wasmund, Amy (Joe) Rottier, and Elwood (Rhonda) Badeau Jr.; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews; and special friends, Dave and Cherie Zelinger, and Sherly Montour. She was preceded in death by her mother-inlaw, Fern Cox; and brothers-in-law, Elwood Badeau Sr. and Gilbert Stoffel.
A memorial service for Betty H. Cox will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025, at 11:00 am at Shawano United Methodist Church. Reverend Dukkan Daniel Kim will officiate. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano at a later date. Visitation will begin at the church on Monday at 9:30 am and continue until the time of service.
