Cheri L. du Mée, age 75 of Marion, went home to meet Jesus on Monday April 7, 2025 at the Pines Post-Acute and Memory Care, Embarrass.
Cheri Lynn du Mée was born on July 17, 1949 in Milwaukee, WI, daughter to the late Jack & Gladys (Sasse) du Mée. She resided with her parents and siblings in numerous states and even in Europe when their father was stationed in Malta with the U.S. Navy during the 1950’s. She always spoke of her many locations with fondness as she loved adventure. Education was important to Cheri and she was successful in her studies even with frequent moves. Her family settled in Miami, Florida where she developed a love for the ocean and beaches. She lived in Miami for many years, and then moved to Palm Beach, Florida. She enjoyed living on the beach, watching the sunrise over the ocean from her balcony, and loved when the turtles hatched.
In 1974, Cheri became a Christian and a devoted follower of Christ. She quickly desired to become a servant of the Lord. She attended Bible College, taught Sunday School, attended Bible studies and took part in a mission trip to Haiti. Cheri was generous to the needy, volunteered to help adults become readers and sang and danced to Christian music. She wrote her own “Prayer and Praise” journals, detailing how the Lord has blessed her through the years. She interviewed friends and wrote about their “Everyday Miracles.” One of her favorite verses is “…in everything give thanks…” Last year Cheri wrote, “I’m just a foot soldier in the Lord’s army. Hopefully, I can take some potshots at the enemy, cover someone, or help carry a stretcher … save someone’s life… is that a weakling’s approach? When I am weak, He is strong … Jesus uses the weak.”
Cheri earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Miami Christian College, and a Masters of Library Science degree from the University of South Florida. She continued learning and taking classes throughout her life. Through the years, she was an editor for The Falcon, a Miami Dade Community College Newspaper; and worked as an administrator at the Miami Christian College. Cheri was employed for over 20 years at Palm Beach Atlantic University. She served as a research librarian and was instrumental in planning and building a new library, complete with scripture carved in stone, dedicating the library to the Lord. Cheri’s work was more than a job, it was a ministry where she discipled many students. She went around doing good without calling attention to herself. Cheri was active in the Christian Librarian Association, where she raised money to provide quality books for thousands of children in Haiti.
Cheri developed deep friendships with many, many people throughout the years. She enjoyed her friends as she traveled, had many adventures, and kept in close contact with them. Cheri has touched many lives, always sharing her faith and bringing others to see Christ. She loved to spend time with her family, including her nieces and nephews and their families.
She moved to Marion in 2022 where she purchased her mother’s house on the river, and enjoyed spending time with her local family members. She was very special to her cousin, Jill Romberg Sether, and her Aunt, MaryAnn Romberg.
Cheri is survived by her brothers: Jack (Patty) du Mée, Peoria, AZ & Bill (Madeline) du Mée, Spruce Pine, NC
