TOWN OF WAUKECHON, Wis. – A barn fire on Swamp Road near County Road K destroyed a structure and likely claimed several cattle Tuesday evening, according to the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities received a call at approximately 5:02 p.m. reporting the fire, which had fully engulfed the barn. Fire and emergency crews from multiple departments responded, confirming that no people were inside. Efforts were made to rescue the cattle, but the owners believe six to eight did not survive.
Officials suspect a space heater in the barn’s well house may have caused the fire. The investigation continues.
