WITTENBERG, WI- The Wittenberg Area Historical Society is preparing for a major expansion to protect and showcase the area’s rich history for future generations.
For more than 50 years, the society has operated from a one-room schoolhouse built in 1904 by St. Paul Lutheran Church. While the building remains a cherished landmark, aging utilities, accessibility challenges, and limited space have made it increasingly difficult to store and display the society’s growing collection of historical artifacts, documents, and photographs.
To address these concerns, the society plans to build a new facility next to the schoolhouse. The addition will provide climate-controlled storage, work areas for researchers, and a central space for events and temporary exhibits. Meanwhile, the schoolhouse itself will undergo modifications to improve accessibility.
To raise awareness and funds, the society will host a special event from 6-9 p.m. on Feb. 21 at the historic Little White Chapel, 400 E. Front St. Guests can enjoy live harp music by Linda Cannon, beer, wine, hors d’oeuvres, charcuterie, raffle baskets, and a 50/50 raffle.
Tickets are $30 for ages 21 and up and can be purchased at Refuel Nutrition, Shops on Grand, or via the historical society’s Facebook page.
