Gresham and Bowler both earned victories in conference play on Thursday.
GRESHAM 3, MARION 0
Gresham swept Marion in dominant fashion with a 3-0 victory on Thursday night, taking the match with scores of 25-12, 25-16, and 25-19. The win improves Gresham’s overall record to 6-4 and their conference record to 4-1.
“I like the way we played really well as a team tonight,” Coach Tim Wild said. “We had a little bump in the road on the third set, be we found a way to pull that one out as well.”
Lexi Baddmoccosin-Barnes was instrumental in setting up the offense, recording 15 assists, while Janay Pecore-Kirkland led the attack with 12 kills. Rylie Kakwitch contributed across the board with 9 digs and 7 kills, and Emily Jensen anchored the defense with 9 digs.
Gresham’s serving game was also strong, with Kiara Cornelius notching 13 service points and Cami Gourley adding 11. The team’s well-rounded effort was too much for Marion, as Gresham controlled the match from start to finish.
BOWLER 3, TIGERTON 0
Tigerton traveled to face Central Wisconsin Conference (CWC) North rival Bowler, where they were narrowly defeated in three closely contested sets. The final scores were 24-26, 21-25, and 20-25, as Tigerton struggled to close out each set despite matching Bowler point for point.
“The teams were very evenly matched, but we couldn’t finish what we started,” said Coach Meverden. “With the second round of conference play starting next week, we’ll need to work hard to beat the teams we lost to in the first round.”
Presley Stewart-Rolfs led Tigerton with 8 kills and 2 block kills, while Danika Tiller dished out 10 assists. Defensively, Sienna Breaker recorded 18 digs, followed by Jade Selle with 14, and both Angel Welch and Aaliyah Lederhaus with 11 each.
On the serving front, Lederhaus led with 9 service points, including 4 aces, while Breaker and Tiller each added 8 points and 2 aces.
