SHAWANO, WI- Greg Parker held off a challenge from Alec Ballo to win re-election as Shawano/Menominee County District Attorney.
“It’s been an honor to serve over 17 years now, and I will be following through with my same philosophy for the next four years,” Parker said.
Parker topped Ballo 4,312 to 1,911 in the vote total, sweeping the entire City of Shawano. Parker lost by 2 votes in the Town of Bartelme and in the City of Marion. Parker won the rest of the municipalities in Shawano County.
Parker said he felt that the victory came down to one key factor. “Experience matters, and that is what I said over and over again. Parker added that he felt people’s confidence in his experience made the difference. “My opponent was pointing disingenuous information, and I think people saw that.”
Parker says a lot of business will be the same as is has been. “We will continue to hold people accountable for the crimes that they commit.”
As far as the next term, Parker says he will be focusing on multiple things including, sticking with the drug court that has been in place, a new deferred prosecution program which will include an alcohol section that will be modeled after a program that Sauk County has.
A decision on the future of the courthouse in Shawano County is also expected to be decided during Parker’s next term.
