Nadine D. Thies, age 89, of Shawano, formerly of Roselle, Illinois, died on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton. Nadine was born on the Tietz farmstead in Sugar Bush, Wisconsin, a daughter of the late Gerald and Alice (Lehman) Tietz. She graduated from New London High School. Following high school, she was united in marriage to James Thies on October 20, 1956. During her early years of marriage to James, they moved frequently due to his job responsibilities. The moves resulted in residing in 40 states and 3 foreign countries over a period of 3 years. Nadine and James returned to Wisconsin in the early 1960’s, then in 1970 they moved to a farm in Ames, Iowa, for a few years. Upon her divorce from James in 1980, Nadine, along with her son Gregory relocated to Northern Illinois, where she remained until returning to Wisconsin again in the early 2000’s. In Wisconsin, Nadine was geographically closer to her parents and siblings. Over her lifetime, Nadine had careers in banking and insurance. Towards the end of her life, Nadine also worked in bridal and beauty salons. Nadine’s Christian faith and daily prayers were her guiding strength throughout her life.
Nadine is survived by her brother, Wayne (Edith) Tietz of New London; sister, Lorraine (Bob) Dittman of Marion; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Alice; sisters, Anita (Paul “Dick”) Krueger, and Enid (David) Wilke; and only child, Gregory Thies, on June 23, 2024.
