SHAWANO COUNTY, WI – A crash on Sunday afternoon in Shawano County resulted in one fatality and another person being hospitalized.
The incident occurred just before 1 p.m. on Highway 29, west of Highway F, according to sheriff’s officials.
Investigators reported that a vehicle was leaving a business on the south side of the highway but failed to clear the intersection. The vehicle was struck on the rear driver’s side by an eastbound vehicle. Both vehicles ended up in the median.
The driver of the vehicle exiting the business was taken to the hospital with injuries but is expected to survive. Tragically, the passenger, an 80-year-old woman from the Shawano area, died at the hospital. Sheriff’s officials noted that she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Her name has not been released.
The occupants of the eastbound vehicle were not injured in the collision.
