
Joseph D. “Joe” Reinert, age 67, of Shawano, passed away on July 24, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer at Aurora Bay Care Medical Center in Green Bay. Joe was born in Shawano on March 1, 1957, to the late Llewellyn and Anna Mae (Boehm) Reinert. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and Shawano High School. Following high school, Joe worked for numerous establishments as a bartender and/or cook including Stan & Bud’s downtown Shawano and Vince and Rita’s Lake Aire Supper Club at Clover Leaf Lakes. For the past 35 years, Joe managed Club 22 Supper Club and always treated it as his own. Even though Joe was an excellent cook, he was also known for his gifted ability to fix anything and everything. Joe never turned down the opportunity to help friends and acquaintances by working many different odd jobs from helping farmers doing field work, to building, plumbing and electrical tasks. He was a jack-of-all-trades.
Joe was an active member of the Shawano County Tavern League holding the position of Director as well as serving one term as President.
Survivors include his sisters, Mary Smits of Green Bay, and Vicky Sprenger of Marion; brother, Tony Reinert of Suring; nephews, Matt Smits, and Andy (Lorie) Smits; great-niece, Madyson Van Ark; great-nephew, Charlie Smits; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Cathy Reinert; and brothers-in-law, Tom Smits, and Robert “Bubba” Sprenger.
A Memorial Mass for Joe will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, August 9, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano with Fr. Edward Looney as Celebrant. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Leopolis at a later date. Visitation will begin on Thursday evening, August 8, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Mickelson Funeral Service in Shawano. Visitation will continue at the church on Friday from 10:00 am until the funeral Mass.
In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials are preferred for Masses or to the American Cancer Society in Joe’s name.
