SHAWANO, WI- The Salvation Army of Shawano County is seeking volunteers and donations to support its Shawano Backpack Program. With the current economic challenges, the need for assistance is greater than ever. Since 2021, the Salvation Army has provided backpacks filled with school supplies to children in need within the county. Last year, over 190 backpacks were distributed to families at local schools.
However, due to funding shortages, the Shawano County Salvation Army Service Unit urgently needs cash donations to purchase school supplies and backpacks for the 2024-2025 school year. All donations are tax-deductible. Volunteers are also needed to help pack and distribute the backpacks. The packing and distribution event will take place in August at the Fellman Center, located at 607 East Elizabeth St, Shawano.
Families in need can register for the Backpack Program through Human Services, Forward Services, Safe Haven, SAM25, and SAFPARC.
The Salvation Army emphasizes that all funds raised in Shawano County stay within the community. In addition to donations and volunteers for the Backpack Program, the Shawano County Service Unit is also seeking board members.
