Iola, WI – In a dominant pitching performance, Manawa freshman Olivia Zielke led the Wolves to a stunning 3-0 victory over the Iola-Scandinavia T-Birds in a regional championship game, ending the T-Birds’ season with a 14-10 record. The Wolves will advance to play at Coleman in the sectional semi-final next Tuesday.
The game remained scoreless through the first three innings until Manawa broke through in the fourth. Briley Rosin tripled to lead off the inning and scored on a bunt single by Kelsey Behnke. Manawa added two more unearned runs in the sixth inning, capitalizing on a T-Bird error after two outs.
Zielke was the standout of the game, stifling the defending state champions with a masterful performance on the mound. She allowed only three hits and struck out 16 batters, completely shutting down Iola-Scandinavia’s offense.
T-Birds senior pitcher Julia Munoz concluded her high school career with a solid effort, allowing seven hits, no walks, and striking out seven batters. Despite her efforts, the T-Birds were unable to overcome Zielke’s overpowering presence.
