
Joseph James Peters Jr, age 23, of Neopit, began his journey to the spirit world on Sunday, May 19, 2024, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Joseph was born July 26, 2000, in Shawano, a son of Joseph Peters Sr. and the late Jessie Lynn James. He attended the Menominee Tribal Schools and graduated from Menominee Indian High School with the class of 2019. Following school he worked construction, security at the casino, and at Novolex in Shawano. Joseph was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing basketball and doing lovely beadwork. Survivors include his children, Joseph Peters, Maec Kenew “Big Eagle”, and Keniahkisaeh “Little Eagle Women”; mother of his children, Ellana Kaquatosh of Neopit; father, Joseph Peters Sr. of Suring; sister, Lauren (Timothy Bourdon) Peters of Shawano; and special nieces and nephews, Evelyn Bourdon, Vincent Bourdon, and Thomas Bourdon. He is further survived by numerous aunts and uncles. Joseph was preceded in death by this mother, Jessie James; two sisters, Gwendolyn and Amber Peters; and his grandparents, Gordon and Leone James, and Orvis and Pastsy Peters.
A Funeral Mass for Joseph Peters Jr. will be celebrated Friday, May 24, 2024, at 11:00 am at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Keshena. Father Hanz Christian will be the celebrant. Visitation will begin at the South Branch Community Center, W1281 County Road M, Keshena, after 12:00 pm on Thursday, May 23, 2024, until the procession leaves for church on Friday.
