SHAWANO, WI-Green Bay resident Stephany L. French, 29, is facing first-degree reckless homicide charges, accused of supplying drugs that resulted in the death of a man at Mohican North Star Casino Resort in the Town of Bartelme in 2021. The trial, initially scheduled for December, was canceled as both prosecution and defense deliberated a potential plea agreement. During a recent status conference on January 30, Shawano-Menominee County Judge Katherine Sloma inquired about a plea deal, but defense attorney Eric Steven Maciolek requested the trial to be reinstated.
District Attorney Gregory Parker, frustrated by the delays, announced the revocation of the plea offer. “We’re not screwing around with this again,” Parker asserted.
The victim, whose body was discovered on September 3, 2021, at the casino hotel, succumbed to a lethal combination of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and ethanol, according to the autopsy. Law enforcement found white powdery residue in the room, but no drugs or paraphernalia. Hotel records identified Lynn French as the victim’s guest, leading authorities to Stephany French.
The investigation revealed that the victim, primarily a drinker and not a drug user, was allegedly with Stephany French, who initially denied being in the room. When confronted with video evidence, French claimed ignorance about the man’s fate but admitted attempting to revive him by pouring cold water on him.
