NEW LONDON, WI- The endeavor to establish a safe connection between the 24-mile long Newtown Blackmour State Trail and New London has been in progress since 2003, marking a remarkable 20-year journey of planning and development.
This versatile trail welcomes a range of recreational activities, including foot traffic, cycling, snowmobiling, and horseback riding. It was aptly named after the communities it was designed to traverse, encompassing New London, Shiocton, Black Creek, and Seymour.
The monumental achievement came in 2014 when the longest section of the trail, spanning from the outskirts of New London at House Road to Seymour, was officially unveiled. This significant milestone was reached after nearly a decade of meticulous planning, countless meetings, tireless fundraising efforts, and thorough budget deliberations.
However, for both avid trail enthusiasts and the officials in New London, the most challenging segment of this extensive project lay ahead. It revolved around the arduous task of extending the trail from House Road towards Pfeifer Park, situated near the heart of downtown New London.
