NORTHWOODS CONFERENCE
CLINTONVILLE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEW
The Clintonville Truckers made the playoffs last year and it was a great season offensively. A big part of the reason is Quarterback Cade Rosenow, who’s back for another go this year in his Senior year. New Head Coach, Nick Raasch, says, “I might be the luckiest coach in the state right now. It’s not often you take over a program and you get somebody of that caliber leading the program for you.” The Senior Quarterback threw for over 30 touchdowns last year, over 2000 yards passing, and was All Conference, All Region, and Honorable Mention All-State. “ We feel really confident about our perimeter players this year. Sam Wegener is one that we that we think could really lead this offense for the receivers. Jack Yaeger and Jonathan Scherschel are two more senior guys who are going to play for us, that they’ll catch us on the balls” . Coach Raasch says they are going to have some younger guys on the line, so a lot of their success will be based on how they emerge as the season goes on. Once again, Clintonville is playing in the competitive Northwoods Conference conference that likes to run the ball.
OCONTO FALLS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEW
Oconto Falls comes in with some of the returners from last year who made an impact on a playoff bound Panther team. “We return an all conference running back in Alex Haines, and we’re expecting him to to carry the load. Haines rushed for over 700 yards last year. “We also return our other wing back in Wyatt Laughrin who who carried the ball quite a bit. We got a couple other pieces in Isaac Bramer, Cole Bozile, and Chase Carriveau who will also do a good job running the ball. Coach Nick Bohl says success in Oconto Falls this year will not be measured by wins and losses, but by development and attitude and effort. Coleman comes in once again as a favorite, but eyes are on the Panthers this year. Last year the Panthers were Senior and Sophomore heavy, but they got a lot of experience with the younger players, he says. The Juniors will have to grow up fast, and getting some JV experience could also play a factor in how they respond for this year.
SHAWANO HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEW

The coaches in the Bay Conference feel this could be another playoff year for Shawano as they’re predicted to finish third in the 6 team Bay Conference. Shawano was able to make the playoffs last year, but it was not a great year as they won three of their final four games and started the season with five straight losses. Jerzey Brocker, First Team All Conference Sophomore Quarterback is back for his Junior year after a great season of over 1600 yards and 22 touchdowns. He does have a strong weapon in First Team All Conference Wide Receiver, Logan Sippl. A lot of the talent from last year came from the Seniors which means Shawano comes in with a lot of questions for the year. Xavier and Winneconne are also predicted to have strong seasons this year in the Bay.
NEW LONDON HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEW
The New London Bulldogs come into this year with some work to do after only having one victory last year. They do return a lot of key contributors for coach Kyle Collins and a group of Seniors that will help to lead the way. There’s also a junior offensive lineman to watch this year, Parker Walbruck, who had 18 starts last year. SeniorJonah Schlueter was the co defensive back of the year in the Bay and he is back this year. The bulldogs do bring back seven offensive starters and nine defensive starters this year. The coaches in the Bay feel that New London will still have to prove themselves yet as their predicted to finish in the bottom half of the bay conference in the preseason.

It was back to the playoffs last year for Bonduel, and this year they come in with something that many teams don’t have the option to say they have, that’s a four year starter at quarterback to lead the offense. Senior Noah Weier is ready to led the charge, according to Coach James Westrich. “He’s smart, really good with his teammates and leads in quiet ways,” Westrich said. “He understands his abilities and and his strength and his weaknesses, and he’s working on those things daily to get better.” Around Weier this season will be quite a few weapons. “We have a lot of athletes. So they’re just like learning their positions to get a little bit better right now. But I like the athleticism we have on defense.” Coach Westrich says the first goal is to win conference, but it won’t be easy. The Packerland tough again this year.

The CWC will once again be competitive, but it will be Wittenberg, Birnamwood as one of the teams that could make a run. They have returned quite a bit from last year and that means that’s a good place to start, coach Jason Rieck says. One other good thing about the Chargers this year is their depth. “We’re deeper than we’ve ever been you know I feel really confident with with each starter having a a true backup that we can put in there in a varsity game that you know when the bullets start flying that they they can they can step up and if someone goes down the next person is ready to go,” he said. “I can’t remember a time that we’ve had that. Coach Rieck says that the conference will offer the Chargers some challenges, but with some athletic players they will be right in the mix. Last year, the Chargers finished in a tie for first plac in the CWC Large, and in Level 1, the Chargers were knocked off by Keil. The Chargers do have 25 letter winners coming back, including nine offensive starters and eight on the defensive side of the ball. Among the names to watch out for, Marshall Fraaza the wide receiver. Also returning this year is Charlie Nowinsky on the line and Nathan Waupekenay the quarterback who was outstanding last year with a 120.3 passer rating. He’s making the right reads and knows when to pull it in to run it. So I think he is really growing as a leader and a quarterback on our team.”
8-MAN FOOTBALL
MENOMINEE INDIAN HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEW
If there’s been one team in the area on the move, it’s been Menominee Indian back and forth from 11 man football to eight man football and last year cancelling their varsity schedule all together to play only a junior varsity schedule. This year it’s back to eight man football and an independent schedule. It also allows them to play at home quite a bit. Eagles will play five games at home as they’ll host Wonowoc Weston, Wisconsin Heights, Oakfield, Princeton, Green Lake and Niagara. They will travel to DeSoto, Elkhart Lake Glenbeulah, as well as Montello. The Eagles look to build off of last year as they try to add more players. This year’s roster size a little bigger than it has been the last couple of years.

The Suring Eagles have another season of eight man football with some work to do this year after finishing three and six last year. This year, coach Mitch Taylor’s team is solid with depth and also experience. Taylor has a record of 121 wins and 101 losses since becoming Suring’s coach.. They do have some inexperience on the offensive and defensive lines and they’ll need to improve their passing game. Overall, there are 16 letter winners returning. Breaking it down, that’s four starters back on both the offensive side of the ball and the defensive side of the ball. Once again, teams expect to be chasing Lena, St. Thomas Aquinas and Gibraltar in this year’s conference.
GILLETT HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEW
The DeBauch’s are back this year in Gillett. That has been a wide receiver quarterback combo that has been working in past seasons. Quarterback Jesse DeBauch was first team all conference last year as a Sophomore. He threw for over 1800 yards and 17 touchdowns. Brandon DeBauch had 48 catches for over 1000 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was also first team All Conference. Gillett could be right in the middle of the pack this year as they welcome back seven starters on offense and six on defense. The Tigers are looking to make an improvement from last year’s run coach Justin Daul calls it the third year of the program’s rebuild.
MARION/TIGERTON HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEW
Sponsored by Marion Body Works
It’s another season of eight man football for Marion Tigerton this year, with one bright spot being the return of their quarterback, Braxton Genskow, who had more than 1300 yards of offense last year. He led the team in passing and rushing and was a second team All Conference selection. Marion Tigerton lost six games last year and they were all lost in dominating fashion, but they did win three contests by a combined 11 points to show some bright sides to what they can do. Top receiver Parker Miller also returning to Marion Tigerton this year, giving them some experience in the receiving game. The Thundercats do have some playmakers as they try to become more competitive and see if they could take a step up in the conference standings.
