Week 1 Feature Game: Two Rivers 24, Bonduel 12
TWO RIVERS, WI- Bonduel could not stop the balanced attack that the Two Rivers Raiders showed on Friday, falling 24-12 to open the season. The Bears struck first on a 13-yard pass from Noah Weier to Colin Fischer to up 6-0 in the first quarter. The second quarter belonged to the Raiders with Justin Klinker and Chase Matthais both finding the endzone on short runs. A field goal gave Two Rivers a 17-6 lead at the half. The Bears defense came out on fire in the third quarter with a 71-yard interception return for a score to make it 17-12. The Raiders put the game away on a scoring pass from Klinker to Matthais. Two Rivers had 445 yards of offense. Noah Weier had 126 passing yards for Bonduel. The Raiders moved the ball up and down the field, sustaining long drives with 35 first downs, but were also hit with 150 penalty yards. The Bears were held to 35 yards on the ground as a team.
NOTRE DAME 35, PULASKI 14
Green Bay Notre Dame rushed for more than 400 yards as a team and used some direct snaps to the backfield to top Pulaski. It seemed the Tritons took some pages right out of the Red Raiders playbook from last year. Notre Dame’s first two plays from scrimmage were touchdown runs of 88 and 55 yards by Christian Collins. The running back ended with 231 yards and three touchdowns. Pulaski kept the game close in the first half, down 14-7, but the Tritons scored twice in the fourth quarter to put the game away. Ethan Schmidt and Logan Schultz both scored for Pulaski.
WEST DE PERE 25, HORTONVILLE 14
The Phantoms aired out a victory over Hortonville 25-14. Duke Shovald had two passing touchdowns to lead the offense. Joseph Riesenberg and Ben Lemirande both caught touchdown passes. The Phantoms led 14-0 in the second quarter before the Polar Bears found the endzone. A 62-yard pass from Broden Butzin to Seth Valeri made it 14-7. Hortonville also scored in the third quarter on a Levi Strange run that resulted in a fumble. Teammate Levi Hebbe scooped up the ball and capped off the score to put the Polar Bears within three. The Phantoms added two points a fourth quarter safety and scored once more to wrap up the scoring. Shovald tossed 285 yards.
FOX VALLEY LUTHERAN 35, WINNECONNE 26
The Foxes scored the last two touchdowns of the game to come from behind and beat Winneconne 35-26. A 34-yard pass from Liam Heiges to David Schumacher put the Foxes up by 9 late. Heiges tossed 260 yards and four passing touchdowns to lead the offense. Schumacher had a pair of touchdown catches.
FREEDOM 47, WAUPACA 28
The Freedom offense was clicking with 456 passing yards and seven passing touchdowns on Friday. Quarterback Drew Kortz found Owen Wedin on four of the scoring passes. The Irish still got 184 yards of rushing by Carson Clausen in the win. Waupaca quarterback Ethan Harms had 236 passing yards and three touchdowns. Freedom led 14-7 after the first quarter and 21-7 at the break, before pulling away in the second half.
The Truckers had no answer for Amherst quarterback Michael Benjamin who scored six times on the ground and threw for one more. Benjamin had 149 yards rushing to lead the way. Westin Allen had 130 yards a rushing TD of his own. Clintonville quarterback Kade Rosenow was 10 of 24 with 156 passing yards and two touchdowns. The Truckers got a little special teams spark with a 95 yard kick return by Jonathan Scherschel.
The T-Birds punched Shiocton in the mouth early with four first half scores, leading the Chiefs 26-7 at the half and rolled to a 32-7 victory over the defending State Runner-ups. Shiocton did not have much offense. Isaiah Carton had 58 yards rushing. Ty Marcks hooked up with Gunner Baker for the Chiefs only score. Jensen Rice had two rushing touchdowns and led Iola-Scandinavia with 80 yards rushing.
