SHAWANO, WI-An 18 year old Green Bay Man is facing 13 counts of Injury by Negligent handling of explosives or fire. Shawano County District Attorney Greg Parker has charged 18 year old Samuel Armstrong who now faces up to 3 ½ Years imprisonment and up to $10,000 in fines if convicted. The charges stem from a bonfire in the town of Maple Grove of a bonfire with several people between the ages of 16-18 that were treated for burns at Green Bay Hospitals. The Complaint alleges that Armstrong injured 13 people after he and another person threw a partially filled 55 gallon plastic drum containing a mixture of diesel fuel and gasoline onto a bonfire. At the time their were 30 or more people celebrating after homecoming at the Pulaski High School.
Sam Armstrong told police “he did not realize the barrel would do what it did and injure someone,” according to the criminal complaint. In court Armstrong waived his preliminary hearing. Judge William Kuessel set a $100,000 signature bond. Armstrong returns to court Sept. 13 for an arraignment. Armstrong is the second person charged in the case. A 16-year-old who assisted Armstrong was prosecuted in juvenile court, and was ordered to perform 40 hours
