SHAWANO, WI- Shawano Municipal Utilities has moved across the street for now. Staff has moved their operation to some temporary office space.
“We were fortunate to have friendly neighbors with Genex.” SMU General Manager Bruce Gomm said. “They had some empty office space and they gave us a corner of their building for now.”
“The first step is to some work on the current building,” SMU General Manager Bruce Gomm said. He said the existing building will be demolished.
A new headquarters building will be built at their current location.
Gomm said all work will continue in full operation during the move. “We will be setting up a construction trailer for our linemen to work out of.” Gomm said the building will be torn down sometime in August.
The new facility will address a lot of issues that SMU has been dealing with. “The way our building is configured, when customers come to pay their bill, their is nothing stopping them from being able to walk right into our offices, so employee safety is a big concern.”
Gomm says the building will be all one level when it is done. “The current building is not very ADA compliant, but that will be addressed with the new building.”
He said it would cost more to repair it then to start over.
