Larry “Arps” D. Wegener, age 76 of Clintonville passed away Tuesday afternoon July 11, 2023 at Care Partners in Clintonville.
Larry was born on February 21, 1947 in Clintonville as the son of the late David and Evern (Miller) Wegener. He was united in marriage to Virginia Pingel on September 19, 1970 at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Clintonville where he was a current member. Larry certainly had a unique personality that he shared with his co-workers over his 37 years working for the Waupaca County Highway Department. He was most at home in the outdoors hunting or fishing. He harvested numerous bucks, a few bear and even an elk throughout his life. Everything had a nickname when it came to Larry. He referred to squirrels as $.18 centers because the value of the tails one could receive from Mepps in Antigo, geese were known as Honkey Tonks, and sandhill cranes were shy pokes. He would always end a conversation with “til next time and then we’ll go farther” or “10-4”. Larry also enjoyed casino trips and fishing with Virginia and other family members; especially catching bluegills for a fish fry or trout fishing at his favorite spots. He was easily recognizable with that long beard and was an easy going “cool dude” that would strike up a conversation with anyone around town. If he was ever confused or something would strike him as strange he’d remark “well good morning” or “that moose”. Larry liked to watch the wildlife around his home and always made sure to keep the squirrel feeder full. He certainly left a legacy with those that loved him most and it will live on through all of the memories they made over the years.
Survivors include: His Wife: Virginia
Siblings: Jerry (Linda) Wegener and Beverly (Ronald) Fietzer.
