
Susan K. “Sue” Krueger, age 83 of Shawano, passed away Thursday evening, July 6, 2023, with family by her side. Sue was born July 6, 1940, in Wausau, a daughter of the late Irwin and Lucy (Kulas) Corey. She attended the Marathon schools, graduating from Marathon High School with the Class of 1958. Following high school, she attended the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse where she earned her bachelor’s degree in English Education and Physical Education. Following graduation, she moved to Cloverleaf Lakes and taught at the Clintonville Public Schools.
On December 31, 1966, Sue was united in marriage to Fred Krueger at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marathon City. The couple made their home in Shawano where Sue taught at Sacred
Heart Catholic School in Shawano and St. Rose Catholic School in Clintonville. Fred preceded her in death on March 13, 2017. Sue was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She loved playing bridge. She and Fred had a group of close friends whom they referred to as “The Four Seasons” and shared many good times together. Sue was a prolific reader and an adventurous cook and loved to read cookbooks. She and Fred hosted several foreign exchange students through the Rotary Club. She encouraged her children to travel and explore the world and other cultures.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Rick (Karen) Krueger of Bay Side, Hans (Julie) Krueger of Lodi, Karen (Jonathon) Slaght of Minneapolis, and daughter-in-law, Melody Krueger Knight of Green Bay; ten grandchildren; one brother, John (Kathy Berkvam) Corey of Beaver Dam; three sisters, Sally (Ron) Schroeder of Wisconsin Rapids, Mary (Lon) Corey Roberts of Wausau, and Monica Schreiner of Wausau; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Fry and Barb Fallert, both of North St. Paul, MN and Rose Krueger of Shawano; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; her son, Corey; an infant daughter, Gretchen; and an infant brother, Jimmy.
A Funeral Mass for Sue will be celebrated on Friday, July 21, 2023, at 12:00 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. Fr. Edward Looney will be the Celebrant. Inurnment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am and continue until the time of Mass.
In lieu of flowers and plants, the family requests memorials to the Shawano County Public Library or Sacred Heart Catholic School in Sue’s name.
