
Adeline Ida Elsie Pockat, age 101 of Caroline, passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at ThedaCare Family Medical Center, New London.
Adeline was born on May 15, 1921, in the Town of Dupont to William and Lillie (Arndt) Begrow and grew up on the family farm with her 12 siblings. She made a living frying fish on Friday nights at the tavern in Big Falls and working as a farm hand on the Begrow and Pockat farms, where she met her husband, Ervin Pockat. They were married on July 19, 1941, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Dupont and spent their life together working side by side. Adeline and Ervin had four children: Dennis, Judie, David, and Janice.
Adeline was known best for beautiful flowerbeds and working in the garden. She enjoyed canning produce and even received grand champion for her canned pickles at the Shawano County Fair. Adeline also loved spending time sewing plastic canvas, sequin calendars and banners, and crafting numerous beaded Christmas ornaments. She joyfully cared for her grandchildren but most of all, she loved family gatherings and seeing her great-grandchildren grow.
She is survived by her children, Judie (Ervin) Degener of Clintonville, David (Susan) Pockat of Clintonville, and Janice Pockat of Caroline. She is further survived by her daughter-in-law, Audrey Pockat of Caroline; grandchildren: Rhonda (Wayne) Maroszek, Jean Degener, Richard (Kim Desens) Degener, Mary (Aaron Gliniecki) Pockat, Donald (Jennie) Pockat, Jeffrey (Kristina) Runge; great-grandchildren: Colton and Christopher Maroszek, Olivia and Owen Runge, Jackson and Alayna Degener; siblings: William Begrow, Carlton (Annabelle) Begrow, Jean Neubauer, sister-in-law Gladys Begrow; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin; son, Dennis; a grandchild, baby Pockat; grandson, Jason Runge; a great-grand child, baby Maroszek; siblings, Irma (Lloyd) Bestul, Dorothy (Albert) Wudstrack, Bernice (Edward) Pockat, August Begrow, Margaret (Rueben) Krueger, Rose (Stanley) Carlson, Ruth (Carl) Miller, Glen (Bernice) Begrow, Ervie (Harold) Nollenberg, and sister-in-law Sigrid Begrow.
A funeral service will be held for Adeline on Tuesday, February 7th at 11:00 am at St. John Lutheran Church, County Road M in Caroline, the Rev. Dean Suehring, officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the hour of the service. Interment will take place at Greenleaf Cemetery at a later date.
In Adeline’s legacy, may we live long, work hard, keep our hands busy, listen to more polka music and love our families well.
