Many teams from area conferences earned wins on Friday and are now one win away from the State Championships. Shiocton and Freedom both advanced.
DIVISION 1
Bay Port 17, Appleton North 10
The Lightening turned the ball over three times and it proved costly in a 17-10 loss to top ranked Bay Port. One of the key turnovers was in the second quarter on fumble by the goal line as Appleton North was attempting to tie the game. Bay Port returned an early second half interception for a touchdown and led 17-0. The Lightening scored the next 10 points, but it was not enough. The Pirates only had 109 yards rushing. Cole Benson had a touchdown pass for the only offensive touchdown.
Kimberly 31, Waunakee 16
The Papermakers went on a 31 point run and took care of top ranked Waunakee 31-16. Blake Barry scored touchdowns on runs of 27, 1 and 14 yards and finished with 186 yards rushing on 33 carries. Seth Miron had 201 yards passing and touchdown in the win. The Papermakers defense came away with five sacks and made things tough on the Warriors offense.
DIVISON 2
Kaukauna 41, Homestead 13
Noah Hoffman rushed for 388 yards and scored three long touchdowns to lead Kaukauna past Homestead as the Ghosts magical postseason run continues. Hoffman scored from 91, 74 and 50 yards out and crossed the 2000 yard mark for the season. In the post season, he has rushed for 867 yards and 11 touchdowns and has a chance to eclipse the 1000 yard mark in the postseason alone.
West De Pere 38, River Falls 6
The Phantoms held River Falls to less than 80 yards of offense and kept the ball on the ground with Najeh Mitchell in the 38-6 win. Mitchell had 162 yards and two touchdowns. West De Pere led 31-0 and held River Falls scoreless until the third quarter. Duke Shovald also threw two touchdowns for the Phantoms.
DIVISION 3
West Salem 21, Notre Dame 14
The Panthers scored with under five minutes left in the game to top Notre Dame 21-14. West Salem did not take long to get going, returning the opening kick-off 82-yards for the score. The Tritons answered with a 1-yard score by Ian Blom and scored their second touchdown in the final seconds of the first half on a 25-yard pass. The Tritons end their season 8-4.
DIVISION 4
Freedom 13, Little Chute 7
Carter Kriewaldt scored both of Freedom’s touchdowns, including one in the early fourth quarter to send the Irish back to Level 4 with a 13-7 win over Little Chute. The win avenged Freedom’s only loss of the season when they fell to Little Chute in the regular season. The Mustangs scored first on a long run by All-Conference quarterback Charlie VandenBurgt.
DIVISION 5
Kewaunee 15, Southern Door 12
The rematch of the top two teams in the Packerland Conference went Kewaunee’s way the second time around, avenging their only loss of the season with a 15-12 win over Southern Door, ending their season at 11-1. Southern Door led 12-7 at the break, but Kewaunee scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter to take the lead for good.
DIVISION 6
Saint Mary Spring 21, Coleman 20
A late touchdown with a minute to go in the game gave Saint Mary Springs a 21-20 win over previously unbeaten Coleman. “Our offense started to stall a little and we were left with some long third and fourth downs,” said Coleman Coach Jeff Bronson. “That is a heck of a team that we just played and a heck of a game.”
Coleman scored first with a 1-yard touchdown by Peter Kuchta on the game’s first drive, but failed on the two point conversion. “We have not had a kicking game all year so we always go for two, and we usually do well,” Bronson said. “Tonight we missed some key ones.” The Ledgers responded with a 1-yard score of their own to lead 7-6 and took a 13-6 lead at the half. JT Koenigs scored all three of Springs touchdowns and ended with 97 yards. Coleman had 196 yards on the ground with Kuchta, Will Bieber and Brady Gross all scoring touchdowns. The Cougars had the only score in the third quarter, but again missed the two point conversion attempt, making it 20-14. The third extra point kick by the Ledgers after their last touchdown was the difference maker on the scoreboard.
DIVISION 7
Shiocton 32, Cambria-Friesland 14
Cade Stingle scored four touchdowns and and Dawson Schmidt tossed two as Shiocton topped Cambria-Friesland 32-14. James Mutchie also scored. Stingle’s touchdowns were from 11, 53 and 3 yards out and he also caught a 44-yard touchdown pass.
